From I65: take the I-165 exit towards Owensboro, exit 20b.  Go to Exit 7, US-231/ Morgantown Road. Turn right on Morgantown road.
The Baker Arboretum and Downing Museum are located at 4801 Morgantown road. 1/2 mile west of the I-165.  There are 3 gates to the arboretum. Turn left after you crest the hill where sign reads “The Baker Arboretum/The Downing Museum.”


  • The Baker Arboretum & Downing Museum staff must ensure visitor’s safety as well as the safety of artifacts, plants, and exhibits.
  • Do not touch works of art. This includes display cases, pedestals, frames, easels, etc.-dirt, moisture, and other contaminates on hands can stain or corrode the surfaces of artworks.
  • Do not veer off paths into gardens or beds. Please feel free to walk in grassy areas.
  • Please refrain from touching plant specimens, so that their natural beauty can be enjoyed by all.
  • Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • The terrain is hilly and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
  • This is a tobacco free campus.
  • Please leave flowers, plants, containers and plant labels in place for everyone to enjoy.
  • Please refrain from bringing pets, food and drinks. Receptacles for disposal are located inside the museum.

  • Donations are accepted in one of three boxes on site, or you may donate here. Suggested donation is $10.
  • Reservations are not needed for admission. Maps for self-guided tours are available at the visitors kiosk and inside the museum.
  • Non-school group charter bus tours are charged at $450 per group.


  • Reservations are not required for self-guided tours. Guided tours are provided for groups of 15 or more. If you plan to visit with a group, please fill out the form on your right and submit no later than 2 weeks in advance.
  • One chaperone must be present per 10 children.
  • Chaperones must remain with the group at all times and is responsible for their disciplines and conduct.
  • Photography for personal use is permitted except when otherwise specified. Flash photography is not permitted.
  • No food or beverages are permitted. Exceptions to this policy must receive approval beforehand.
  • Violation of these rules will result in one verbal warning. Further rule violation will result in group or individual being escorted to museum exit.
  • Tours last approximately 30 minutes each for both the arboretum and museum. Visitors can also watch an Emmy-award-winning documentary about the life of Joe Downing with a run-time of approximately 25 minutes.
  • Non-school groups are charged $450 per group.
